The video series My Home is Manitoba showcases our province's unique multicultural heritage and the benefits of cultural diversity. The video speaks mainly to new immigrants, breaking down the stereotypes they sometimes face, although all Manitobans will find it interesting. There are four 15-minute segments, each with a facilitator's guide that can also be used for self-directed learning.

Healthy Eating Toolkit: A Resource for Teaching English as an Additional Language (6 MB PDF file)

The Healthy Eating Toolkit is designed for use with a learning facilitator or instructor. Each activity includes a worksheet for CLB 1/Literacy Phase 1 language learners, suggested methodology and materials for the instructor, background information on nutrition content for the instructor, and online/community resources.

Citizenship Study Materials for Newcomers to Manitoba (17 MB PDF file)

This resource can be used for self-study or with a facilitator to help newcomers prepare for their citizenship test. It is based on the 2011 Discover Canada study guide. This resource is written in plain English and includes activities for facilitators.

The EAL Water Safety Resource is a CLB Stage 1 curriculum resource intended to be used with a facilitator. It contains activities related to personal flotation devices and lifejackets, swimming pools, beaches, boating, winter rivers/lakes/ponds, and kitchen/bathroom water safety.

Manitoba Adult EAL Curriculum Framework Foundations comprises a compendium of companion and curriculum-support documents intended to provide guidance and support to Adult EAL instructors in their development of specific curricula, instructional plans and assessments, and evaluation practices.

National resources and guides

The Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks (CCLB) is the centre of expertise in support of the national standards in English and French for describing, measuring and recognizing second language proficiency of adult immigrants and prospective immigrants for living and working in Canada.
