MPNP Renewal Information Session - Stakeholders and General Public

Manitoba Immigration and Economic Opportunities is holding an information session on the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program renewal on December 6, 2017 at The Marlborough Hotel in Winnipeg.

The information session will provide attendees with an overview of the MPNP changes and an opportunity to have questions answered.

Age for accompanying dependent child increased to under 22

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has revised the definition of a dependent child.

Effective October 24, 2017, children qualify as dependants if they meet both of these requirements:

  • they’re under 22 years old, and
  • they don’t have a spouse or common-law partner.

Children 22 years old or older (also known as an overage dependent children) qualify as dependants if they meet both of these requirements:

  • they have depended on their parents for financial support since before the age of 22, and
  • they are unable to financially support themselves because of a mental or physical condition.

For more details, please see the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website for the current and previous definitions of a dependent child.

Use the IRCC online tool to check if your child qualifies as a dependant.

Of the 31 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs), twenty-one (21) were sent to applicants with the lowest point score of 90.

Thirty (30) applications, including those from Farm Strategic Recruitment Initiative, were received for the month of September 2017.

Overseas Recruitment Missions in London, Paris, and Manila 2017

If you are a Manitoba Employer interested in participating in the (London/Paris/Manila) overseas mission, please provide the following information:

Participating employers will be responsible for their own airfare, accommodations and meals. Participating employers may also be required to cost share meeting space for interviews.

  • London Mission: November 6th -10th, 2017
  • Paris Destination Canada: November 14th - 16th, 2017
  • Brussels Destination Canada November 18th, 2017
  • Manila Mission: November 20th - 24th, 2017

Destination Canada 2017

Registration is now open for the 2017 edition of Destination Canada Job Fair which will take place November 14th, 15th and 16th in Paris, November 18th in Brussels. A preparatory meeting for all Canadian participants will take place in Paris on November 13th.

Webconferences for employers

On September 13th, the Embassy of Canada in France will host a webinar for employers interested in learning more about Destination Canada, Mobilité francophone, Express Entry and other support available for international recruitment.

An accommodation package is offered again this year by Megatour, at a cost of 1 330 euros for 7 nights including breakfast, free wifi and transportation from the hotel to the forum in Paris and in Brussels.

LMIA exemption under the International Mobility Program stream “Mobilité francophone”

Since June 1st, 2016, the Mobilité Francophone stream exempts employers from the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process when they hire francophone workers in managerial, professional and technical/skilled trades occupations from abroad to work outside of Quebec. You will find details on eligibility and how to apply in the attached bilingual information sheet.
